About The Whole Home Studio
Made in Toronto
The Whole Home Studio is a Canadian home design studio based in Toronto, inspired by the places, landscapes and everyday spaces we love across Ontario and Canada.
Every lamp is made in small batches in our Toronto workshop. Each piece moves through our hands from production to assembly, inspection and finishing before it is packed and sent on its way.
Working in small batches keeps us close to the process and gives us the opportunity to pay attention to the details of every piece.
We try to keep our supply chain close to home, too. When sourcing materials and partners, we look to Toronto first, then elsewhere in Canada wherever practical. Some specialized components are sourced internationally, but our finished lamps are made in Toronto with Canadian and imported parts.
For us, making locally is a way to stay connected to what we create, support Canadian businesses and build a studio rooted in the city and country that inspire us.
Sustainability
We believe sustainability starts with understanding what something is made from, where its parts come from, how it is made and what happens to it at the end of its useful life.
Our lamps are primarily made from PLA, a well-established bioplastic produced from renewable plant sugars. The filament we use is manufactured here in Canada.
Because our forms are made through additive manufacturing, material is placed only where the design calls for it. This helps us keep production waste low while making in small batches rather than producing large quantities of finished inventory.
Where adhesives are needed, we source them from a Canadian, family-owned adhesive manufacturer with decades of experience. Our USB lighting components are sourced internationally and are inspected and function-tested in our Toronto workshop before being paired with a lamp.
We don't believe any material should be described as perfect. PLA is plant-based, but it still requires the right infrastructure and conditions at the end of its life. Disposal and recovery options can also vary between communities.
That is why transparency is an important part of how we think about sustainability.

We have been inspired by the idea behind Digital Product Passports: keeping useful information about a product accessible throughout its life rather than letting that information disappear with the packaging.
Each Whole Home Studio lamp includes a discreet link underneath it to information about the lamp, its materials and its components.
If the lamp eventually reaches the end of its useful life, that same link can help identify its major parts and point toward appropriate local reuse, recycling, electronic-waste or disposal options.
We think the responsibility for a product should extend beyond the day it arrives at your door.
